2024 was a good year for pop artists getting the recognition they already deserved a while ago, for country sellouts, for 70s soft rock throwback, for hyperpop that isn’t trendy anymore. My favorite artist released two albums and two EPs, and I haven’t shut up for three months about the artist who might become my new favorite. And here’s the lists that explain what I’m getting at.
Albums
- Imaginal Disk by Magdalena Bay
- Smile! :D by Porter Robinson
- Girls Who Are Wizards by Vylet Pony
- Wonderful now by Anatole Muster
- nothing by Louis Cole, Jules Buckley, and Metropole Orkest
- Brat by Charli XCX
- Wearing Out the Refrain by Bad Moves
- A Dream Is All We Know by The Lemon Twigs
- Parallel Realms by STRFKR
- Lively Premonition by Jordana
EPs
- My Star by Junior Varsity
- Twice Around the Sun by Ugly
- No Matter What 2024 by Vylet Pony
- Soul Kiss by Frost Children and Haru Nemuri
- Scrobelly by Underbelly and Scro
Songs
- New York by Junior Varsity
- Facing Oblivion to Become the Lode Star by Vylet Pony
- fair by dog eyes
- Cheerleader by Porter Robinson
- NEW NEW by TWICE
- Tried and True by Pretty Sick
- Cry for Me by Magdalena Bay
- If I Could by Jay Som
- Bad Dog by Alex & Lolo
- The Right Time by Allie Sandt
- harvest sky by Oklou and underscores
- LA’s Got Gorgeous by Nitefire
- Cinderella by Remi Wolf
- Sugar Water Cyanide by Rebecca Black
- Dead Talents Society by Joanna Wang
If not for my one song per artist rule, Junior Varsity and Porter Robinson might have three songs each. Anyhow, my favorite mainstream songs of the year:
- 360 by Charli XCX
- Good Luck, Babe! by Chappell Roan
- Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter
- wait for your love by Ariana Grande
- BIRDS OF A FEATHER by Billie Eilish
- greedy by Tate McRae
I’d also like to recognize End of Beginning by Djo, which blew up this year even though it was actually released in 2022. And my favorite music video of the year was for Faerybabyy’s orange soda.
Well, that’s the list. Now you know what you should have been liking all year :)
